Friedrich Kuhlau

Friedrich Kuhlau

Danish-German Classical Composer and Pianist

Friedrich Kuhlau was a German-Danish pianist and composer who lived from 1786 to 1832. Although born in Germany, he settled in Denmark and became a significant figure in Danish musical life. Kuhlau is often remembered for his flute music, which earned him the nickname "the Beethoven of the flute" during his lifetime. Despite being a contemporary of Beethoven, and reputedly meeting him in Vienna, Kuhlau's style was distinct, and he contributed greatly to the piano and chamber music repertoire.
