Franz Lehár-Orchester

Austrian Operetta Orchestra

Franz Lehár was an Austro-Hungarian composer, primarily known for his operettas. Born on April 30, 1870, in Komárom, Austro-Hungarian Empire (now Komárno, Slovakia), Lehár was one of the leading figures in the development of the genre during the early 20th century. His most famous work is "The Merry Widow" ("Die lustige Witwe"), which premiered in 1905 and achieved worldwide success. The operetta's melodies were especially popular and have been adapted into numerous languages.
