Forrest J. Ackerman

Forrest J. Ackerman

Forrest J. Ackerman was not an artist, composer, or band known for producing albums titled "Music For Robots." Instead, Forrest J. Ackerman (1916-2008) was a prominent figure in the science fiction community, best known for his work as a literary agent, magazine editor, and writer. He is often credited with coining the term "sci-fi" and was a passionate collector of science fiction books and movie memorabilia. Ackerman's influence extended to many areas of science fiction fandom; he was the editor and a contributor to the influential magazine "Famous Monsters of Filmland," and he represented numerous science fiction authors as a literary agent. His collection of sci-fi and horror memorabilia was legendary, and he was known for his generosity in sharing it with fans through tours of his home, which he called the "Ackermansion." Ackerman's contributions to the genre were recognized with a World Science Fiction Convention Special Hugo Award in 1953 for "#1 Fan Personality."
