Foerstrovo Trio

Foerstrovo Trio

The Foerster Piano Trio, also known as the Foerstrovo Trio in the Czech language, was a Czechoslovak / Czech piano trio. The trio was formed at Prague’s Academy of Music in 1955. It made its public debut, as the Academy Students Trio, in February 1956. The ensemble was then comprised of violinist František Pospíšil (b. 1933), cellist Václav Jírovec (1936-2000), and pianist Aleš Bílek (b. 1932). In the following year, they asked Mrs Olga Foersterovà for permission to use the name, Foerster Trio. From then the ensemble embarked on an artistic road lined with hundreds of appearances on concert platforms in its home country and abroad. It’s discography grew progressively with advancing years. The Foerster Trio gradually built up an extensive repertoire ranging from works from the Classical era, through Romantic production to 20th Century music. Naturally, it’s innermost core was from the very beginning constituted by the three piano trios of Josef Bohuslav Foerster. In 1969 the Foerster’s original violinist František Pospíšil was replaced by Stanislav Srp (b. 1930). The ensemble then carried on with this modified membership, performing live and in studio until the autumn of 2000, when its work was cut short by the untimely death of cellist Václav Jírovec
