Étienne Moulinié

Étienne Moulinié

17th-Century French Baroque Composer and Musician

Étienne Moulinié was a French composer of the early Baroque period, born in 1599 and passing away in 1676. He served as the music master to Gaston d'Orléans, brother of King Louis XIII of France, which allowed him to work in a privileged environment conducive to musical composition and performance. Moulinié's career spanned several decades during which he composed a variety of works including airs de cour (courtly airs), chansons, and sacred music. His compositions are noted for their melodic quality and the skillful integration of the French and Italian styles that were prevalent during his time.
