Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky is a renowned German jazz saxophonist and clarinetist, recognized for his significant contributions to the European jazz scene, particularly within East Germany. Born on December 10, 1933, in Güstrow, he became an influential figure in the development of jazz in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Petrowsky was a founding member of the Modern Jazz Quartet Erfurt, which later evolved into the legendary Manfred-Ludwig-Sextett. His career spans several decades, during which he has been known for his avant-garde approach and his ability to blend different styles of jazz.
