Emmett Miller

Emmett Miller

Pioneering American Minstrel and Country Singer

Emmett Miller (February 2, 1900 – March 29, 1962) was an American minstrel show performer and recording artist known for his falsetto, yodel-like voice. He was a major influence on many country music singers, including Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, Bob Wills, Milton Brown, Tommy Duncan, and Merle Haggard. His music bridges a gap between old-time Southern music, minstrelsy, jazz, and western swing. Further reading: Nick Tosches, Where Dead Voices Gather (2001)
