His career began in 1954 when he recorded his first song at Sun Records in Memphis, which led to a contract with RCA Victor. Presley's energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, made him enormously popular—and controversial. He starred in 33 successful films, made history with his television appearances and specials, and knew great acclaim through his many record-breaking live concert performances. His best-known albums include "Elvis Presley" (1956), his debut album, and "Blue Hawaii" (1961), among others. Presley is one of the best-selling solo artists in the history of recorded music.
