Eden Ahbez

Eden Ahbez

Bohemian Nature Boy Songwriter and Proto-Hippie Musician

Eden Ahbez was a unique and influential figure in the music world, best known for his 1960 album "Eden's Island (The Music Of An Enchanted Isle)," which is often regarded as one of the earliest examples of the exotica genre. Born George Alexander Aberle in 1908, he later adopted the name Eden Ahbez, styling himself as a proto-hippie who lived a minimalist lifestyle and embraced nature. Ahbez came into prominence after writing the song "Nature Boy," which became a hit for Nat King Cole in 1948. The song's success brought Ahbez some fame, and its philosophical lyrics reflected his deep connection to nature and his belief in a simple, peaceful life.
