Daniel Cohen

As Kapellmeister at the Deutsche Oper Berlin during the 2015-17 seasons, Daniel Cohen conducted performances of Lucia di Lammermoor, Barber of Seville, La Traviata, Morgen und Abend, Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, and Cosi fan Tutte. Cohen recently made his debut at the Staatsoper Berlin with Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Next season Cohen will return to the Staatsoper Berlin with a revival of Klaus Guth’s production of Britten’s Turn of the Screw . He will also conduct Mozart’s La Nozze di Figaro with the Jerusalem Camerata and Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo. Cohen made his acclaimed Canadian Opera Company debut with Christopher Alden’s production of La clemenza di Tito. He also conducted a new production of Massenet’s Don Quichotte at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari. At the Israeli Opera Cohen conduct La Cenerentola, Rigoletto, Otello, Traviata, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Pique Dame, Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro and Wozzeck. A former Los Angeles Philharmonic Gustavo Dudamel Fellow, Cohen conducted such orchestras as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Berlin, the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra dell’Arena di Verona, the Helsinki Philharmonic, Milwaukee Symphony, RTE National Orchestra Dublin, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Staatsoper Hannover, and West Australian Symphony Orchestra. While still a student at the Royal Academy of Music in London, Cohen was appointed Music Director of the Jersey Chamber Orchestra where he was chief conductor for 10 seasons and worked with artists such as Nicola Benedetti, Sophie Bevan, Alison Balsom and Lawrence Zazzo. He is also Artistic Director of the Gropius Ensemble, which specialises in a synthesis of music and theater, collaborating with actor Itay Tiran. As a violinist Cohen graduated the RAM in London and was member of the West Eastern Divan Orchestra, where he also was assistant Conductor to Daniel Barenboim​. Cohen was also part of the Lucerne Festival Academy Composer Project where he worked alongside Pierre Boulez.
