Cranes are a British alternative rock band formed in the mid-1980s by siblings Alison and Jim Shaw. Initially part of the late 1980s gothic rock scene, the band is known for their ethereal sound and the haunting voice of lead singer Alison Shaw. Their music later evolved, incorporating elements of dream pop, shoegaze, and post-rock. Cranes gained critical acclaim with their second album "Forever" in 1993, which marked a shift towards a more accessible sound while maintaining their distinctive atmospheric textures. The band's discography includes several albums and EPs, with "Self-Non-Self" being one of their early releases that helped establish their unique style. They also released "EP Collection Volumes 1 & 2," which compiled some of their early EPs and rare tracks. Over the years, Cranes have maintained a devoted fan base and have continued to produce music and perform live, albeit with less frequency than during their peak in the 1990s.
