Concerto Amsterdam

Concerto Amsterdam

Dutch Baroque Ensemble

Concerto Amsterdam is not a singular artist or composer but rather a baroque ensemble that was active primarily during the mid-20th century. The group was founded by the Dutch violinist and conductor Jaap Schröder in 1959 and became known for its authentic performances of baroque music, often using period instruments to achieve a sound that is faithful to the era in which the music was composed. The ensemble worked with various notable musicians and conductors, including Gustav Leonhardt, who was a renowned harpsichordist and conductor. Together, they recorded numerous works of baroque repertoire, including pieces by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. The albums "Organ Concertos Nos. 1, 2, 3 & 4 Vol. 1" and "Organ Concertos Nos. 14, 15 & 16 - vol. 4" suggest recordings of Handel's organ concertos, which are an important part of the baroque organ repertoire.
