Clytus Gottwald

Clytus Gottwald

German composer and arranger

Clytus Gottwald is a German composer, conductor, and musicologist, renowned for his intricate and sophisticated transcriptions of orchestral works for a cappella choir. Born on February 20, 1925, in Stuttgart, he has made significant contributions to the choral repertoire by arranging complex symphonic compositions to be performed by vocal ensembles. Gottwald studied musicology with Thrasybulos Georgiades and conducting with Hans Grischkat. His work often involves the transformation of late-Romantic and Impressionist works by composers such as Gustav Mahler, Claude Debussy, and Maurice Ravel into lush, polyphonic choral settings.
