Clemens Krauss

Clemens Krauss

Austrian Conductor and Opera Director

Clemens Krauss (1893–1954) was an Austrian conductor and opera impresario with a significant influence on the musical world, particularly in the German-speaking countries. He is best known for his interpretations of Richard Strauss's works, with whom he had a close collaboration. Krauss held prominent positions throughout his career, including the directorship of the Vienna State Opera from 1929 to 1934, and later at the Munich Opera. After World War II, he became closely associated with the Bayreuth Festival, where he conducted Wagner's operas.
