Clancy Eccles was a Jamaican reggae singer, songwriter, and producer who played a significant role in the development of reggae music. Born on December 9, 1940, in Dean Pen, St. Mary, Jamaica, Eccles began his music career in the late 1950s. He initially gained recognition with his hit single "Freedom," which became an anthem for the Jamaican political party People's National Party during their successful 1972 election campaign.
