Cirith Ungol

Cirith Ungol

American heavy metal band

Cirith Ungol is an American heavy metal band that was formed in Ventura, California, in the early 1970s. The band's name is derived from J.R.R. Tolkien's fictional universe of Middle-earth, specifically a pass called Cirith Ungol in his book "The Lord of the Rings." Known for their unique blend of heavy metal with progressive and doom elements, Cirith Ungol released their debut album "Frost and Fire" in 1981. This was followed by "King of the Dead" in 1984 and "One Foot in Hell" in 1986. Despite a dedicated cult following, mainstream success eluded them, and they disbanded in 1992 after releasing their fourth album "Paradise Lost."
