Irish Classical Composer and Conductor

Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (1852–1924) was a prominent Irish composer, music teacher, and conductor of the late Romantic era. He is particularly noted for his choral works and was instrumental in the revival of British choral music. Stanford held professorships at the Royal College of Music and Cambridge University, where he taught a generation of composers known as the "English Musical Renaissance," including Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
