Catherine Wheel

Catherine Wheel

British alternative rock band

Catherine Wheel was an English alternative rock band that formed in 1990 in Great Yarmouth. The band was composed of Rob Dickinson (vocals, guitar), Brian Futter (guitar, vocals), Dave Hawes (bass), and Neil Sims (drums). They were initially associated with the shoegazing scene, although their sound evolved significantly over the years. Catherine Wheel's debut album, "Ferment," released in 1992, included their hit single "Black Metallic," which is often considered one of the high points of the shoegaze genre. They followed up with "Chrome" in 1993, which saw them moving towards a more alternative rock sound. Their third album, "Happy Days," released in 1995, furthered this evolution with a heavier approach. Despite critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base, Catherine Wheel never achieved widespread commercial success. They continued to release albums and tour until they went on hiatus in 2000. Their influence can still be heard in the music of many contemporary bands.
