Benjamin Godard

Benjamin Godard

French Romantic Composer and Violinist

Benjamin Godard (1849–1895) was a French violinist and Romantic-era composer who is perhaps best known for his operas and chamber music. Despite not being as widely recognized today as some of his contemporaries, Godard was quite prolific during his lifetime, composing over 100 works including symphonies, concertos, quartets, and numerous pieces for piano and violin. His style was characterized by its melodic inventiveness and often incorporated elements of the music of the time, such as the use of folk themes.
