Asger Hamerik

Asger Hamerik

Danish Romantic Composer

Asger Hamerik, born Asger Hamerik (April 8, 1843 – July 13, 1923), was a Danish composer who made significant contributions to the musical landscape of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He studied under Niels Gade in Copenhagen before continuing his education in music with Hector Berlioz in Paris. Hamerik's career was notably international; he spent a considerable amount of time in the United States, where he served as the director of the Peabody Institute in Baltimore for nearly three decades, from 1871 to 1898.
