Arturo Toscanini

Italian orchestral conductor

Arturo Toscanini was an Italian conductor, renowned for his intense and dynamic conducting style, his dedication to musical fidelity, and his refusal to make any personal alterations to scores. Born on March 25, 1867, in Parma, Italy, Toscanini began his career as a cellist before moving on to conducting. He quickly gained a reputation for his prodigious talent and by the age of 30, he was already the principal conductor at La Scala in Milan. Toscanini's career spanned over six decades during which he conducted many of the world's leading orchestras including the NBC Symphony Orchestra, which was created especially for him in 1937.
