Arthur Freed

Arthur Freed

Arthur Freed was an American lyricist and Hollywood film producer. He was born on September 9, 1894, in Charleston, South Carolina, and passed away on April 12, 1973. Freed is best known for his work at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where he headed the "Freed Unit," which was responsible for producing some of the studio's most famous and successful musical films during the 1940s and 1950s. Although primarily a producer and lyricist rather than a recording artist with albums, Freed co-wrote many songs that became classics, including "Singin' in the Rain," which was later used as the title song for the iconic 1952 film of the same name.
