Arrigo Boito

Arrigo Boito

Italian Opera Composer and Librettist

Arrigo Boito was an Italian poet, journalist, novelist, librettist, and composer, best known for his operas. Born on February 24, 1842, in Padua, Boito studied music at the Milan Conservatory. His most famous work is the opera "Mefistofele," based on Goethe's "Faust," which premiered in 1868. Although its initial reception was mixed, "Mefistofele" was revised by Boito and eventually became a staple of the operatic repertoire.
