Armand-Louis Couperin

Armand-Louis Couperin

18th-Century French Baroque Composer and Organist

Armand-Louis Couperin (1727–1789) was a distinguished French composer, organist, and harpsichordist from the famous Couperin family, which produced several notable musicians over generations. He was a cousin of the more famous François Couperin, one of the most important French composers of the Baroque era. Armand-Louis served as the organist at several prominent churches in Paris, including Saint-Gervais and Saint-Jean-en-Grève. His compositional output includes works for harpsichord and organ, and he was known for his elegant and refined style that reflected the tastes of his time. While he did not achieve the same level of fame as some of his relatives, his contributions to French keyboard music are recognized by scholars and enthusiasts of Baroque music. His works, such as "Pièces de Clavecin" and "Complete Solo Harpsichord Music," showcase the characteristic grace and ornamentation of the French Baroque tradition.
