Na podzim roku 2002, kdy se i strážci vysoké kultury najednou zamýšleli nad fenoménem "the" kapel, detroitská skupina, která tento trend odstartovala, nahrávala ve studiu své čtvrté album "Elephant". O rok později toto album, které bylo nahráno během deseti dnů v malém londýnském studiu Toe Rag, prosadilo Jacka a Meg Whiteovy po celém světě. V Anglii a USA už bratrsko-sesterské duo (?) získalo platinovou desku a bylo nominováno na čtyři ceny Grammy, zatímco v Německu strávilo album v hitparádách dlouhých šest měsíců. Zvuk je všechno, jen ne "superhvězdný", ale syrový a jednoduše upřímný. Více než tři akordy, ale jen dva nástroje. I když singl Spex z roku 2003 "Seven Nation Army" může někoho zmást, ani tady není slyšet žádná basa.

The White Stripes slaví 20. výročí svého čtvrtého studiového alba "Elephant" z roku 2003, oceněného platinovou deskou RIAA, limitovanou edicí 2xLP verze původního alba Elephant, která vychází na barevném vinylu Red Smoke (1. LP) & Clear with Red & Black Smoke (2. LP).
