Our previous LP releases of Grateful Dead concerts from the Dick's Picks series included 1969, 1972, 1974 and 1977... but one year is conspicuously absent from this list. That's right... we haven't yet released the 1973 concert, the highlight of the Dead tour, on vinyl! And what was the highlight of the tour that year? Yes, the fall tour of the Midwest. So the choice of Dick's Picks Vol. 19 as our next vinyl "tour" was easy. It was the first show of the tour, and at the time, it was actually the first concert from 1973 to be released in its entirety. More importantly, with the release of "Wake of the Flood" just a few days earlier, the band had acquired a lot of fresh material, highlighted by outstanding performances of "Stella Blue" and "Eyes of the World". And the set's two companion numbers, "Playing in the Band" and "Dark Star" (which lead into the stunning "Mind Left Body Jam" and the haunting "Morning Dew"), are pure improvisational bliss. The original sound mix is superb, and we've gone to great lengths to preserve and even enhance it for this release, thanks to mastering for vinyl from the original tapes by original mastering engineer Jeffrey Norman, lacquer cut by Clint Holley and Dave Polster at Well Made Music, and a 180-gram pressing on black vinyl by Gotta Groove Records. Also included is a copy with artwork from the original release, housed in a two-piece, hand-numbered hardcover box. Limited to 4500 sets of 6 LPs.
