FINALLY.... a live album of bluegrass/folk heroes with 17 songs! More than six years ago, we discovered the four gentlemen of The Dead South from Regina, Saskatchewan, during Canadian Music Week in Toronto, very late at night in a rather sparsely packed club. Our enthusiasm was matched by a contract signing, and we released their debut album "Good Company" in November 2014. Needless to say, we are proud to have written a successful indie story with the band, which we are now celebrating with a double live album entitled "Served Live". It's not exactly a new idea, of course, but if it makes sense for a band, then it makes sense for The Dead South too, because their live shows are already quite legendary and, especially on stage, they show their strengths that are quite hard to show on a studio album: unbridled joy of playing, genre-spanning concert dynamics, a good dash of humour and mutual banter are just a few attributes that come to mind. Of course, the band's "die-hard fans" won't be 100% satisfied, because despite only three studio albums, one or another song is definitely missing - for me, especially "Gunslinger's Glory", but that's also very long. Their live sets also include cover versions of bands like The Animals, The Decemberists and various traditionals, but here only their own songs should make it onto albums or CDs. The seventeen songs on "Served Live" were recorded at seventeen different concerts, as the band wanted to thank as many fans as possible, but unfortunately Covid-19 thwarted the plans and there were no concerts in Germany, while the US (L.A, Seattle, Portland, Boston, Atlanta, Denver, NY), UK (Manchester, London, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Belfast, Dublin) and home Canada (Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal) are represented. "Served Live" is an incredibly energetic and authentic concert documentary that will delight local fans of The Dead South and provide warm comfort as they await their next tour.
