The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion was the intoxicating sound of a band that had reached its peak. Funky, unapologetically loud, loose and clenched in perfect proportion, with punchy beats, church female backing vocals and two guitars snaking around Chris' raspy wail, it was reminiscent of everything from Exile-era Stones to Nick Drake to the Allman Brothers. Most of all, though, it sounded like The Black Crowes. The album reached number one on the US Billboard chart. "The album debuted at number one, sold millions of copies and was our big success in Europe. And I think for people who like The Black Crowes, it's our best record, our classic album," says Chris Robinson.
