Swift began composing the album in early 2013, following the release of her fourth studio album Red (2012). She collaborated with producers Max Martin and Shellback on the album, and it features guest appearances from artists such as Ryan Adams, Bon Iver and Imogen Heap. The album's title track was released as the lead single in August 2014. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 1.287 million copies in its first week of release. It became the fastest-selling album in the United States since 2002 and the best-selling album of 2014. As of December 2017, the album has sold over 7 million copies worldwide. The album won three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, and was nominated for six more. The album 1989 received wide acclaim from music critics, who praised Swift's songwriting and production. Several publications, including Rolling Stone, Time and the Associated Press, ranked it among the best albums of 2014. In December 2014, Swift announced that she would embark on the 1989 World Tour in support of the album.
