What is amazing about this record is the incredible freshness of the band at the time, which is much more evident on the live recordings (from 1977-1979) than on the studio albums. The sound is as crystal clear as it is crisp, the band sounds unspectacular and spontaneous, David Byrne seems to be brimming with ideas. The songs infect everyone with their poignant, detachedly ironic and cynical humour and, not least, they offer an excellent outline of the band's development at its most creative stage, when its music became more complex and intense year by year. The cover photographs of the band are very funny and telling: on the front we see Talking Heads performing with guest musicians on a large stage, on the back we see them in a living room in front of a window with musty curtains. The album - originally released in 1982 - also impressively documents the band's journey from living room to worldwide fame. Here you can relive the Heads' career in concentrated form. And it's a journey that's as fun and exciting as it is funny, and incidentally one of the most acclaimed live discs in rock history.
