In memory of this extraordinary guitarist, Epic Records and Legacy Records are releasing Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection The collection features 12 CDs, including the first commercial release of the 1983 live recording "A Legend In The Making - Live at the El Mocambo". In memory of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, and Epic Records are releasing a 12-CD set of the blues guitarist's work called The Complete Epic Recordings Collection. The Complete Epic Recordings Collection will be available on October 24, 2014. The collection collects for the first time all of the official studio and live albums by Stevie and his band Double Trouble. The live recording of "A Legend In The Making" has special collector's value. The recording was made in 1983 at Toronto's El Mocambo club and is available on CD for the first time ever. The Complete Epic Recordings collection also includes two CDs of rarities from the archives. On April 26, 2014, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble were inducted into the then newly opened Austin City Limits Hall of Fame. This rock hall of fame is located in the Texas state capital and is an offshoot of the popular television series Live From Austin, TX. This show, which features live performances by the biggest stars, has been broadcast on the American PBS station for 40 years. Stephen Ray Vaughan was born on 3 October 1954 in Dallas, Texas. The year he was born under a special star because that was also when the legendary Fender Stratocaster was first produced. Stevie got his first guitar at the age of seven. He graduated from high school at 17 and went to Austin a year later, in 1972. He honed his skills in various bands until he started his own combo in 1978 Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble. Steve firmly believed that he could inspire his contemporaries to the blues, and this belief made him one of the most influential and fascinating guitarists in the history of the genre. Steve became a charismatic frontman and blues missionary, ably seconded by drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon. The trio excelled as a live band, and when the boys reaffirmed that reputation in 1982 at a memorable concert at the Montreux International Jazz Festival, it had its consequences. They were recommended to the Epic label by A&R pope John Hammond and recorded their debut album "Texas Flood" in 1983. This paved the way for countless gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards, a plethora of honors never before bestowed on any blues group. On August 27, 1990, Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed in a helicopter crash. He was returning from a concert his combo played with Eric Clapton at the Alpine Valley Resort in Wisconsin. Although Stevie's professional career lasted only seven years, many younger musicians, such as John Mayer, Derek Trucks and Pearl Jam's Mike McCready, cite him as a role model. International music magazines have also paid tribute to the exceptional guitarist. In 1983, he was voted "Best New Talent" and "Best Electric Guitar Player" by the readers of Guitar Player magazine, and four years later he was named "Rhythm and Blues Act of the Year" by Performance magazine. In 1984, the Blues Foundation, which supports artists in the genre, named him "Entertainer of the Year" and "Blues Instrumentalist of the Year." Stevie Ray Vaughan has won six Grammy Awards and ten Austin Music Awards. Posthumously, the man Rolling Stone magazine ranked among the 12 greatest guitarists of all time was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame (2000) and the Musicians Hall of Fame (2014).
