"Jazz Samba" is a groundbreaking album by American saxophonist Stan Getz and guitarist Charlie Byrd, released in 1962. It played a pivotal role in popularizing bossa nova music around the world, particularly in the United States. The album was recorded on February 13, 1962, at the All Souls Unitarian Church in Washington D.C., and was released by Verve Records. "Jazz Samba" features a collection of seven tracks, including the hit "Desafinado," which became a major pop hit after its release. Other tracks on the album are "Samba Dees Days," "O Pato," "Samba Triste," "Samba De Uma Nota Só" (also known as "One Note Samba"), "É Luxo Só," and "Baía." The fusion of Getz's smooth tenor saxophone with Byrd's rhythmic guitar created a new sound that was both sophisticated and accessible, contributing to the album's commercial success. It is notable for being one of the first major American releases to showcase the bossa nova style and has since become a classic in both the jazz and world music genres.
