Sonic youth's eponymous debut twelve-inch was recorded in late 1981 at radio city music hall in nyc and originally released on neutral songwriter glenn branca's label. The album is loosely based on songs the newly formed group performed at a week-long noisefest event (and remains the only recorded document of the early lineup, which featured actor richard edson on drums). The goofin' records release, which returns on CD, also includes additional live material from the 1981 concert and an outtake from an early studio session. "We wanted it to sound like the saw we were into. It wasn't, but we were lucky that it sounded like a record.
