Singer-songwriter Mike Ness and his three bandmates spent four years preparing the album "White Light White Heat White Trash," which was released in 1996. The new LP (unlike its country and rockabilly-oriented predecessor) strongly reflected the "first wave of American punk" with idols like the Dead Boys, the Dickies, X and Johnny Thunders. Incidentally, Social Distortion, who formed in the early '80s in Orange Country, Southern California, managed to get a producer for "White Light..." none other than Michael Beinhorn (Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers).
