Product Information Hamburg's Running Wild, who took their name from a track on Judas Priest's "Killing Machine" album, would go on to become metal's most famous band with a pirate fixation. However, this image was not to emerge until several years into their career (more precisely after the release of their third album "Under Jolly Roger"). Even before that, Running Wild were trying to establish themselves in the wider European metal circuit, and after several well-placed demo tapes, the band came to the attention of Noise Records in the early 80s. At the invitation of the label, the band was included on the now acclaimed compilation album "Rock From Hell", released in 83. This was followed by inclusion on the "Death Metal" compilation in 84, where Running Wild recorded two tracks. The band enjoyed a favorable response and was offered the opportunity to record their first LP album for Noise Records, and the album "Gates To Purgatory" was released later that year. With photos of the band surrounded by skulls and satanic song titles, Running Wild began to be compared to Venom and their ilk, though in reality they were more influenced by the aforementioned Priest along with Kiss and AC/DC.
