Při tvorbě hudby na tomto albu se Robbie Williams opět nechal inspirovat svou láskou ke swingové hudbě a ponořil tak písně do velmi zvláštního zvuku.

Na albu "Swings Both Ways" Robbieho podporují různí hostující hudebníci vysokého kalibru. Mezi tyto klasické skladby, které Robbie Williams nazpíval jako duety pro své nové album, patří písně "Dream A Little Dream" (s Lily Allen), "I Wan'na Be Like You" (s Olly Mursem) a "Little Green Apples" (s Kelly Clarkson).
Album obsahuje celkem šest zcela nových písní, na kterých Robbie poprvé spolupracoval se svým bývalým stálým producentem Guyem Chambersem. Album bylo nahráno v legendárních londýnských studiích Abbey Road.

Album "Swing When You're Winning" z roku 2000 je Robbieho dosud nejúspěšnějším albem. V německé hitparádě se udrželo 81 týdnů a v Německu se ho prodalo 1,5 milionu kusů.
