The album features songs the band recorded between 1976 and 1989, but does not include material from Animal Boy (1986) and Halfway to Sanity (1987). When the Queens punk rock quartet hit the road with their first album in 1976, the rock scene in general was somewhat bloated and narcissistic. The Ramones went back to basics: simple, fast, austere rock 'n' roll songs. Voice, guitar, bass, drums. No make-up, no ego, no light show, no nonsense. And while the themes were sometimes bleak and came from the gloomy basement of the adolescent mind, the band also brought cartoonish fun and high-energy excitement back to rock'n'roll.
