Rage Against the Machine is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1991, the band consists of singer Zack de la Rocha, bassist and backing vocalist Tim Commerford, guitarist Tom Morello, and drummer Brad Wilk. They draw inspiration from heavy metal, funk, hip hop and punk rock. Rage Against the Machine released their debut album in 1992. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album spawned the singles "Bombtrack", "Take the Power Back" and "Freedom". The band's second album, Evil Empire, was released in 1996. The album reached number two on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. It spawned the singles "Bulls on Parade", "People of the Sun" and "Zapata's Blood". The group's third album, The Battle of Los Angeles, was released in 1999.
