Album "So", vydané v roce 1986, se stalo jedním z těch děl, která definovala celou éru a byla po celém světě oceněna celou řadou multiplatinových ocenění (jen v USA se prodalo více než pět milionů kopií). Odstartoval ho obrovský hitový singl "Sledgehammer" a jeho přelomový videoklip, který je dodnes nejhranějším videem na MTV. 'So' obsahuje i další úderné hity, včetně 'In Your Eyes', který byl použit i v režijním debutu Camerona Crowea 'Teen Lover', stejně jako okouzlující duet s Kate Bush 'Don't Give Up' a konečně 'Big Time'.
