Released in 1988, Introspective sold more than four and a half million copies worldwide and was the first album produced by star producer Trevor Horn, whose lavish orchestration also marked a new sonic direction for the Pet Shop Boys. House legend Frankie Knuckles created the mix for I Want A Dog, while Domino Dancing was recorded with hit producer Lewis Martinee in Miami. In addition, the intro revealed Tennant and Lowe's new approach to vinyl album and single formats: each of the album's only six tracks was longer than six minutes, and additional edits were made for the regular seven-inch single formats. "The idea was to make an album where every song was a single," explains Neil Tennant. "Five of the six songs were released as singles. I'm Not Scared was a single for Patsy Kensit and her band Eighth Wonder respectively."
