"The Hunter", the anticipated new album from progressive legends Mastodon, will be released on September 23, 2011. It is the band's fifth studio album and the first to be released outside of North America on Roadrunner Records. Drummer Brann Dailor on " The Hunter ": "When you listen to the songs, they don't sound as 'fun' as we perceive them to be, but it's still extremely heavy stuff. We recorded about 14 songs. And it's kind of all over the place - a lot of different sounds. Some classic rock sounding songs, some death metal sounding songs, and some totally bizarre, weird rock songs that we're not sure what they are, but we love them. "The follow-up to 2009's famous "Crack The Skye" was recorded at Doppler studios in Atlanta with producer Mike Elizondo. Drummer Brann recorded his parts ahead of time at the legendary Sound City studios in Los Angeles, where Nirvana's "Nevermind" had already been recorded. The theme for the unusual but eye-catching cover art was created by AJ Fosik, who has done backdrops for the band's shows in the past. For the first time the band did not entrust its cover to Paul Roman, as it was the case with all previous albums. Mastodon are known as a great touring band, which they proved in June and July this year during the famous concerts at Rock am Ring / Rock im Park and various headlining shows, and in the past as support for Slayer, among others.
