The most influential, most successful, but also arguably the most controversial pop artist of our time? No question: Madonna! Alongside the new studio album "MDNA", we recommend a compact fly-through of the Queen of Pop's catalogue with five original albums that have significantly influenced her career. It all started in 1983 with her debut, which reached the German Top 40 thanks to irresistible bubblegum hits like "Holiday" and "Lucky Star". With the autobiographical album "Like A Prayer", which also became number one in this country six years later, she was not afraid to consistently focus on her own vulnerability. But the "Artist of the Decade" (MTV) also ruled the 1990s, and not just with the song "Ray Of Light". Together with producer William Orbit, Madonna reappeared in ambient songs like "Frozen" - and in 1999 won four Grammys (including Best Pop Album and Best Dance Album) after long being ignored at America's most important music awards. Madonna entered the new millennium with the electronic-oriented album "Music," which she co-produced with French underground DJ Mirwais. Not even a riding accident with a broken collarbone and ribs prevented the now 47-year-old artist from making a triumphant return to the clubs and discos of this world with the album "Confessions On A Dance Floor" in late 2005. The monster single "Hung Up" (featuring a sample of the Abba classic "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!"), which also received an "Echo" award, topped the charts in over 41 countries. Not surprisingly, Madonna was soon voted the third most influential person in the world by Forbes magazine..... The review of ,,Warner's ,,Original Album Series" is now in its sixth round.
