The album, which featured a sound influenced more by R&B and hip-hop, was commercially successful and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Singles from the album such as "Secret" and "Take a Bow" became chart hits and the album was certified triple platinum by the RIAA. Critics praised Madonna's experimentation on the album and many called it her most mature work to date. The album's lyrics deal with themes of love, sex and relationships, with Madonna singing about her own experiences and those of others. Musically, the album is a blend of genres with elements of R&B, hip-hop, soul and funk. Bedtime Stories is often considered Madonna's most underrated album, and many artists cite it as an influence.
