New from the archive of the French publisher Erato: Erato and HMV recordings by Éric Heidsieck Brilliance, purity and richness of colour characterise the playing of pianist Éric Heidsieck, born in Reims in 1936. He was a pupil of the French masters Marcel Ciampi and Alfred Cortot and went to Wilhelm Kempff to deepen his study of Beethoven's music. Heidsieck's artistic career, which included more than 2,000 concerts worldwide and duo collaborations with his wife, pianist Tania, and cellist Paul Tortelier, brought him extraordinary fame around the world - but especially in Japan. His superb recordings of all of Beethoven's piano sonatas, made in the years around 1970, are complemented in this box by a previously unreleased version of the Hammerklavier Sonata from 1958. The bulk of the box (eight of the 27 CDs) are CD premieres - including recordings of works by Beethoven, Handel, Hindemith, Couperin, Debussy, Roussel and Ravel.
