Product information Even a quarter of a century after the end of his active singing career, nothing has changed in the exceptional position of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau in the history of songwriting. Above all, it is the interpreter of the Lied Fischer-Dieskau who has set standards that have remained valid far beyond his time. The second volume of the Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau Lied-Editon edition is an excellent example of Fischer-Dieskau's consummate skill in placing special emphasis on the poet's text as a source of varied musical inspiration. On CD1, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Karl Engel take on the performance of songs on Goethe's texts from five periods. Similarly, five years later, together with Wolfgang Sawallisch, they dedicate their programme at the Salzburg Festival to Joseph Eichendorff, focusing on three composers who identified particularly strongly with the Romantic poet (CD2). CD3, with songs set to texts by the poet Richard Dehmel, gives evidence of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau's lifelong interest in the range of the repertoire. The CD set completes the programme, which includes Songs of the Romantic Era by various 19th-century composers (CD4).
