Korn is an American nu-metal band from Bakersfield, California, formed in 1993. The band's current line-up consists of founding members Jonathan Davis (vocals, bagpipes), James "Munky" Shaffer (guitar), Brian "Head" Welch (guitar, backing vocals) and Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu (bass), who were joined by Ray Luzier (drums, percussion) in 2007, replacing original member David Silverio. Korn was founded by three of its original members, Jonathan Davis, James Shaffer and Reginald Arvizu, while they were in high school. They began playing together because they shared a common interest in heavy metal music. The band's current name was inspired by the band Sexart. Korn released their debut album in 1994, which featured a grunge metal sound. The album was met with mixed reviews but was commercially successful, selling over two million copies in the United States. Korn's second album Life Is Peachy was released in 1996. The album featured a more aggressive sound than their debut album and was also commercially successful.
