"Engines Of Creation" is a very progressive, modern rock record that deserves respect and recognition. "Devil's Slide" is a great opener, "Flavor Crystal" and "Borg Sex" get things going and then calm down with "Until We Say Goodbye". This is certainly a balanced record. It's surprising how much the keyboards, drums and programming shape this album. Eventually the guitars are replaced by driving synths that are as incisive as ever, sometimes even as if Satriani is trying to invent the latest tools needed for mind-altering laser surgery. With this album, Joe has set himself on the path of a modern and beautiful sound and continues his work.
