About the product: This is Bonamassa's ninth studio release on his own J&R Adventures label, which he created with longtime manager Roy Weisman. Dust Bowl was produced by Kevin "Caveman" Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin), making it their sixth collaboration in five years. Dust Bowl was recorded at Black Rock Studios in Santorini, Greece, Ben's Studio in Nashville, The Cave in Malibu and The Village in Los Angeles. It combines the gritty, bluesy tones of Bonamassa's early albums with the smooth, genre-defying sound he adopted in the years that followed, and adds a dash of country from Joe's collaborations with Nashville's finest, including legends Vince Gill and John Hiatt. "Dust Bowl," explains Shirley, "is very firmly rooted in the blues, but it definitely explores the outer boundaries of the genre and showcases Joe's amazing virtuosity as he dives deep into his psyche in several long and haunting guitar solos." "It's the best album we've ever made," adds Bonamassa. "At thirty years old, I find more inspiration in storytelling, in writing songs that are about something deeper than 'my baby left me.' I like albums that are made with the right intentions and sound organic and a little gritty, like when a great band plays live in a room, and we've done that with Dust Bowl." The John Hiatt/John Porter-penned "Tennessee Plates" features Hiatt duetting with Bonamassa, with Vince Gill lending his signature guitar style. Gill also plays on "Sweet Rowena", a song he wrote with his frequent co-writer Pete Wasner. Arlan Scheirbaum, Beth Hart and Blondie Chaplin star on the Michael Kamen/Tim Curry track "No Love On The Street" and Glenn Hughes sings on the Paul Rodgers-penned "Heartbreaker."
