The 1987 recording of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No.5 by the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Leonard Bernstein is considered by many critics to be a milestone in the history of the interpretation of this work. "Fiery, demonic and triumphant, this recording is a standard among Bernstein's recordings," wrote the British magazine Grammophone. The recording, undoubtedly one of the most important of Bernstein's conducting career and still one of his most successful productions on Deutsche Grammophon, is being reissued on 180g vinyl as a 2LP set.
