The 2003 re-release of the milestone in German music history with rare bonus tracks "Kollaps" was released in October 1981 and few German underground records have been so vividly discussed at home and abroad. For many foreign music writers, this record is one of the most important avant-garde recordings since the early 1970s.This digipak reissue includes as a bonus the hard-to-find steel dub versions, which were only released as MCs at the time.Neubauten didn't have much in common with dub as such, which originally developed as a variety of reggae, but what the band performs here doesn't sound exactly like reggae either. In many of the tracks you can at least hear a strong bass drum. While classic dub is characterized by a slow tempo, steel dub versions are usually fast and hard. The alienated sound of the amplified bass spring makes the tracks seem more electronic than they actually are. Rhythmic variations are still at their core, but they are not as versatile as usual. Still, the steel dub versions sound much more innovative than what the hip hop remix gods released in 1997 as "Ende Neu Remixes" - even if they're not as massively compatible.
